During the first week of OT2 one player really stood out to us as a great part of our early community. Jerry, also known as Chickenbomb, was extremely helpful to new players from day one. He answered so many questions in our global chat that our team couldn’t tell if he was actually one of us at Epic.
We caught up with him to learn more about him and his Fortnite expertise!
So Chickenbomb, what is your favorite play style in Fortnite? Are you more into defense, building, combat, etc.?
I’m more into scavenging and support for my teammates, but I’m also a fan of building extravagant strongholds and watching Husks throw themselves at it.
What class is your favorite and why?
The Outlander for the building part of a level. The Constructor for the defense part. I love being able to harvest entire cities in the blink of an eye, and then dump at back at base to build with. Oftentimes when I’m playing alone, I’ll start up a level as the Outlander, and then once I have enough supplies, exit back to town and switch to the Constructor for fort building and defending.
What is your go-to strategy for building your base?
Make a metal pyramid around the gate, surrounded by a metal box. Then I clear out as much space as possible between the spawns and the gates, so I have clear line of sight for any husks that spawn. Then I’ll set up knee high walls throughout the area, to slow/delay the husks. With a Constructor B.A.S.E. going, all the normal husks will usually die, and that leaves me able to focus on taking out the special husks.
How many hours do you think you’ve put into the game so far?
Honestly I have no idea. I just remember the first night I got into the game, I started playing around 11 p.m., and then next thing I knew it was 1 p.m. the next day.
What kinds of games do you like to play?
All sorts, I’m a pretty hardcore gamer myself so I have interests in all fields of gaming. Fortnite had piqued my interest a few years back when I first read about it on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, and I was SUPER psyched when I got an invite to the game.
Do you have a few beginner tips to share for new players?
For players starting out solo, the Constructor is better than the Commando. The Constructor has the B.A.S.E. ability which generates a small field on player tiles around it that damages husks, giving solo players some leeway in setting traps. For the HomeBase, prioritize in building the Farm, Power Station, Expedition Team, Manufacturing plant, and then Warehouse first. Ignore all the other buildings until you have those five up to generate resources for the other buildings.
Sweet, those are great tips for folks to keep in mind.
As a thank you for being such an awesome part of our community, we’ll be giving Chickenbomb five additional codes to give away. Go to this thread on the Fortnite sub-Reddit and tell Chickenbomb why you want to play Fortnite and maybe he will pick you to get a code!
