How do I change the console account I have linked to my Epic Games account?

If you accidentally linked the wrong console account (Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation) to your Epic Games account, or if you are just looking to change the console account linked to your Epic Games account, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a browser (in incognito mode if possible) on your computer or mobile device and go to www.epicgames.com (Opens in a new tab)

  2. On the top-right of the site, click the Sign in button

Note: If you do not see a Sign in button you are already signed in. Click the avatar at the top of the screen and click Sign Out to ensure you are not signed in to the wrong account.
Once signed out, click the Sign in button.

  3. Sign in with the Epic Games account that you linked the console account to, or you can also use the console sign in option by clicking on it's logo

  4. Once signed in, go to Linked accounts (Opens in a new tab) in your account settings page.

  5. Locate the account you want to unlink and click Unlink
(For this example, we will be Unlink an Xbox account)

  6. You will see a warning that if you unlink the account, you will no longer be able to access the information stored on that Epic Games account (skins, progress, etc).
Make sure every checkbox is checked and click Unlink.

  7. Once the process finishes, you will see a message that the account was unlinked

  8. When you link a console account to your Epic Games account a linking restriction will be set.
With this restriction active you can only link the same Xbox account to your Epic Games account.

In order to link a different Xbox account you need to remove the linking restriction.

    1. Click Here to start the linking restriction removal process

    2. You will see the current external accounts that you have linked to your Epic Games account.

    3. Select platform you want to remove the linking restriction for and click on Send a code button

    4. You will receive the code in your Email address of your Epic Games account (make sure to check your spam folders if you do not find the email).
Enter the code on the screen and then click the Remove the [Platform] restriction

    5. You will see a message that the linking restriction removal was a success
Note: Once you complete a linking restriction removal, you must wait 365 days before you can attempt a linking restriction removal for the same platform again.

  9. Go back to your console and open the game.

  10. You can now start the linking process again to link the correct console account to you Epic Games account.

Note: Be careful to link the correct console account.

Note:
If you unlinked a console account, then removed the linking restriction and then accidentally relinked the same console account right after, a new linking restriction may now be preventing you from connecting a different console account.
