Securing your Epic Games account
Use Unique Passwords
- Use a unique password for your Epic Games account that you do not use on any other service. This ensures that if another account is compromised, your Epic Games account remains protected.
- Consider using a password manager to generate and store strong, unique passwords securely.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code when logging in.
- We support:
- Authenticator apps (recommended)
- SMS
- Using an authenticator app provides the strongest protection. Get protected now.
- You should also enable 2FA on any accounts linked to your Epic Games account (such as Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Facebook, or Google), as these can be used to access your account. You can find more information about enabling 2FA on those accounts here.
Secure and Verify your Email Address
- When you create an Epic Games account or change your email address, use an email that you expect to have long-term access to. Losing access to your email could prevent you from accessing or recovering your Epic Games account in the future.
- In case you haven’t done so already, we strongly recommend you verify the email address associated with your Epic Games account. This helps protect your account with our 2FA and makes it easier for Player Support to assist you in the event of any suspicious activity with your account.
- Secure your email address through your email service provider by using unique passwords and enabling 2FA.
Link Your Social Accounts for Extra Security
- We offer support to integrate Facebook and Google logins within our Epic Games account system. This allows you to log into your Epic Games account without requiring a separate password as long as you’re actively logged into Google or Facebook.
- Please be sure to protect your social accounts with a unique password and 2FA as your Epic Games account security depends on those accounts as well.
Keep Your Devices Secure
- Don’t trust shared systems. You could be at a cybercafe, library, school, or even a friend's house. If you don't use your own computer or console, then do not allow it to remember your account info & log out after using a shared system.
- Keep your device, browser, and antivirus software up to date
- Only install software from trusted sources
Watch for Phishing and Scams
Be cautious of messages or websites asking for your login details.
- Only sign in through official Epic Games websites or apps
- Do not click suspicious links or attachments
- Epic Games will only ask for your password on official Epic Games login pages. We will never ask for your password via email, messages, or third-party websites.
Don’t Buy or Share Accounts
- Buying, selling, or sharing accounts is against Epic Games’ Terms of Service and may result in account restrictions or bans.
- You are responsible for all activity on your account, including any actions or penalties resulting from sharing it.
Don’t Trust Suspicious Offers
- Do not trust offers for free V-Bucks, games, or other items from unofficial sources. Do not enter your login details on external websites.
- Official offers will only appear on the Epic Games Store, official Epic Games websites, or verified Epic Games social media channels.
- Only purchase items through the Epic Games Store or in-game
- Do not exchange money for in-game gifts through third parties
