I get an error when I try to log into my Epic Games account
If you receive one of the following error messages while logging into your Epic Games account, try the troubleshooting steps listed below:
"You previously linked a different [platform] account to your Epic Games account."
- This error message means that you are attempting to link a console account to an Epic Games account that already has another console of the same type linked to it.
- This might get this error because you logged into the wrong console account, or you logged into a console account that you do not use with Epic Games.
- Try these troubleshooting steps to fix the issue:
- Try logging in via the Sign in with email option instead of the console option.
- Try opening the Epic Games Account Sign In page (Opens in a new tab) in an Incognito window or an alternate browser to log in.
"This account for [platform] is already linked to another Epic Games account."
- This error message means that your console is already linked to an Epic Games account.
- You may see this issue if you didn’t link your console account to an existing Epic Games account when you first logged into Fortnite.
- To find the account your console is linked to, please do the following:
- Open Epic Games Account Sign In page (Opens in a new tab) in an Incognito web browser.
- Select the icon for your console type.
- Log in using your console login information.
- If you have a full Epic Games account, go to the General tab on the left side of the screen to view your account information.
"You already have an account, please sign in."
- This error message means that the email address is already in use on another account.
- You can change the email address by following the steps here: Change the email on your Epic Games account.
"Incorrect response. Please refresh the page."
- If you received this error while linking an external account, it means that your password was incorrect when attempting to link your console to an existing Epic Games account.
- If you received this error while attempting to sign in, you need to submit a support ticket, so our team can assist you.
"There was an error logging you in, please try again."
- Make sure you're not connected to any VPN/Hosting/Proxy services. If you are, disconnect from them before continuing.
- Try logging in using your Epic Games account email and password.
- If the issue persists, reset the password by clicking on the Forgot Password (Opens in a new tab) and try to sign in again using your Epic Games account email and new password.
"Invalid Credentials"
- Check that you are using the correct email address for the Epic Games account
- Try resetting the password by clicking on the Forgot Password (Opens in a new tab).
- If you are sure that the email and password are correct but still get an invalid credentials error, disable autofill in your browser, and make sure your keyboard is set to your default language.
"Sorry, your account is inactive and may not log in"
- If you receive this error, you need to complete account recovery before you can sign in.
- Follow the steps in How can I recover access to my Epic Games account? to submit an account recovery request.
"The security code is invalid or expired"
This error appears when the 2FA code you entered did not work. Try the steps below based on your sign-in method.
If you use email or SMS verification:
- Wait 30 seconds, then click Resend code to get a fresh code
- Enter the new code right away - codes expire after a short time
- Make sure you are using the most recent code, not one from an older message
- If you did not receive the code by email, check your spam folder
If you use an authenticator app:
- Wait for the code to refresh in the app, then try the new one
- If codes still fail, make sure your device's date and time are set to sync automatically - an out-of-sync clock is the most common cause of this error
- Once your device time is corrected, the codes should start working
If none of the above works:
- On the sign-in screen, select Try another way to switch to a different 2FA method
- If you have lost access to all of your 2FA methods, follow the steps in My Authenticator app or SMS two-factor authentication (2FA) has locked me out of my account
"SMS is not available"
This error means SMS 2FA cannot be delivered to your phone number. This can happen if your number is not supported or if SMS 2FA is not available in your region.
- On the sign-in screen, select Try another way to sign in using email verification or your authenticator app instead
- Once you are signed in, you can update or remove SMS as your 2FA method from the Password and security (Opens in a new tab) section of your account settings
"Something went wrong. Please refresh the page and check that you allow cookies on your device."
This error usually means your browser blocked the cookies that the sign-in page needs to work. Try the following steps in order:
- Refresh the page and try signing in again. If your session simply timed out, this is enough to fix it.
- Make sure cookies are enabled in your browser. Cookies are required to sign in to your Epic Games account.
- If you have any browser extensions installed - such as ad blockers or privacy tools - temporarily disable them, then refresh the page and try again.
- Try signing in using a different browser or a new browser window.
"Sorry, you are visiting our service too frequently, please try again later"
This is a temporary block triggered by too many sign-in attempts in a short period of time. It clears automatically - Epic Games Support cannot speed up the reset.
- Wait a few minutes, then try signing in again
- If the error continues, wait 24 hours before trying again
"Sorry, your account has too many active logins. Please log out of one of the places you are using your account and try again"
Your account is signed in on too many devices at the same time. Sign out on another device first, then try again.
For steps to manage your active sessions, see "Sorry, your account has too many active logins. Please log out one of the places you are using your account and try again" Error message
