Detect PC or MAC problems and malfunctions

Make sure your system meets the requirements to run the game Fortnite

To enjoy the best Fortnite experience, your device must meet the minimum requirements to run the game. This article contains the requirements for Fortnite and how to ensure that you comply with them.

Confirm your game files

Confirm Your Game Files Verifies that no game files are lost or corrupted. If it is corrupt or missing, it will be re-downloaded through the Epic Games launcher. 

  1. Open the Epic Games launcher.
  2. Go to your library .
  3. Click on the three dots next to Fortnite.
    Click on the three dots next to your Fortnite library.
  4. Click Confirm .

Run the Epic Games launcher as an administrator

Running the Epic Games launcher as an administrator may help as it bypasses the user access control that prevents certain actions from happening on your PC.

  1. Right click on your Epic Games launcher shortcut
  2. Click to run as administrator .
  3. Play Fortnite.

Update your video card drivers

Manufacturers release video driver updates regularly to fix crashes and improve performance. We highly recommend that you install the latest drivers for your video card to have the best Fortnite gaming experience. You can find the latest drivers by going to your video card manufacturers' website using these links:

Disable background apps

Sometimes background apps cause crashes or reduce performance while you are playing Fortnite. Follow the steps in this article to make sure any background apps are disabled.

Repair Visual C++ Redistributables

You need Visual C++ Redistributables to run Fortnite. Make sure it is installed and/or valid.

  1. Download all Visual C++ Redistributables here .
  2. Make sure to download both x64 and x86 versions.
  3. When the download is complete, run the executable files and choose Repair .
    Note: If there is no repair option, proceed with the normal installation using the onscreen instructions.
  4. Restart your computer after the repair is complete.
  5. Restart Fortnite.

Set compatibility mode

Setting the compatibility mode for Fortnite might solve your problems. 

  1. Go to your binary directory for your Fortnite game (Default: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fortnite\FortniteGame\Binaries\Win64\)
  2. Find FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe .
  3. Right-click, then click Properties .
  4. Click Agree .
  5. Check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode .
  6. Make sure to choose Windows 8
  7. Check the box next to Disable full screen optimization .
  8. Click Apply .
  9. Click OK .
  10. Restart Fortnite.

Hiring DirectX 11 

If you are using DirectX 12 and have problems while playing Fortnite, you can switch to DirectX 11. 

  1. Open the Epic Games launcher .
  2. Click Settings .
  3. Scroll down and expand Fortnite .
  4. Select the Additional Command Line Arguments box .
  5. Login d3d11 ,  then restart Fortnite.

Network troubleshooting and troubleshooting

Epic Games server status

Check the Epic Games server status page to make sure all systems are working. If the issue you're experiencing is related to a system outage or issues, you won't be able to connect to Fortnite until the outage or issue is resolved. 

Set player finding area to automatic

Setting the Player Finder to Automatic  will connect you to the servers with the lowest latency or connection. 

  1. Play Fortnite.
  2. Click Battle Royal .
  3. Click on the menu at the top left
  4. Click Settings .
  5. Click on the gear icon at the top.
  6. Set the Find Players area  to Automatic .

packet loss

Packet loss occurs when one or more packets sent from your computer to our servers and back to you again fail to reach their destination. Here's a command line that might fix your missing packets:

  1. Open the Epic Games launcher .
  2. Click Settings .
  3. Scroll down and expand Fortnite .
  4. Check the box next to Additional Command Line Arguments .
  5. Type -limitclientticks in the blank field to restrict network updates.

If you continue to lose packets, contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance.

Error message Login failed

If you're trying to play Fortnite and get this error message, 'It's because your system' isn't loading fast enough.

This happens when the system does not meet the 'Fortnite Minimum Requirements'. You can see the minimum requirements here .


Troubleshoot console or mobile device malfunctions

Important note: Apple has blocked your access to Fortnite on iOS devices. Fortnite on Android is currently available via the Epic Games app on the Samsung Galaxy Store or epicgames.com . Fortnite is not currently available on the Google Play Store.  Learn more .

Unable to enter username on Nintendo Switch

If you are unable to enter your username when creating an Epic Games account on the Nintendo Switch platform, try entering the name using the console's touch screen or by connecting a controller and using a controller.

Reinstall Fortnite

Consoles and mobile devices have closed systems, which means there aren't many troubleshooting options to fix the problems you're experiencing. The most common solution is to reinstall Here are the instructions on how to remove the app for Android.   

Android: 

  1. Press and hold the Fortnite icon.
  2. Click Uninstall .
  3. Visit the Google Play Store or the Epic Games website to download the installer and reinstall Fortnite.
