Getting started in Rocket League Sideswipe

Rocket League Sideswipe delivers fast‑paced matches you can pick up and play anytime. Customize your car, climb the Competitive Ranks, and dive into rotating seasonal modes like Volleyball and Hoops for fresh ways to play. Learn more on the official site (Opens in a new tab).

Learn the controls

Sideswipe displays intuitive on-screen controls. You can also use supported Bluetooth controllers. Here’s what each button does:

  • Analog steering: Use the joystick to drive. Push left or right to move forward or backward. You can also drive up and down walls.
  • Jump: Tap to jump. Tap again mid-air to double jump. It resets when you land.
  • Boost: Hold to fly forward. Boost works in mid-air for aerial moves.
  • Dodge: Tap while steering to dash in a direction.
  • Dodge shot: Dodging pushes the ball away — great for shooting or defense.
  • Settings: Tap the gear icon to open your settings at any time.

Adjust your game settings

You can customize your settings for performance and comfort. You can find these settings by tapping the gear icon on the top right of your screen. Categories include:

  • Gameplay
  • Audio
  • Graphics
  • Accessibility
  • Notifications

Customize your car

Use the Garage to personalize your vehicle, manage your inventory, and salvage unused items.

Change your car's look.

  1. Select Garage.
  2. Choose a car.
  3. Select Edit Loadout.

Manage your inventory

In your Garage, tap the icon resembling three books on the top right. Here, you'll be able to:

  • View all collected items
  • Edit your profile
  • Customize Quick Chat stickers

Salvage items for SP

  1. Tap the icon of small squares in the top right or the Garage.
  2. Tap the first icon to open All Inventory
  3. Select the item to salvage.
  4. Press and hold the item.
  5. Tap Salvage, then tap Accept.
    This removes the item and adds SP to your account.

Visit the Item Shop

Buy new items or unlock a daily Mystery Item using SP. Items rotate often, and a timer above each item shows when it refreshes.

Complete challenges

Challenges reward you with items, XP, or Drops. Types include:

  • Weekly Challenges: Reset every week.
  • Seasonal Challenges: Last the full season. Some unlock over time.
  • Event Challenges: Limited-time challenges like New Driver Challenges (for new players).

Track your progress and earn rewards

Rocket Pass

Your Rocket Pass now tracks progress permanently across Seasons. Earn XP to unlock cosmetic items as you climb through Tiers.

Token Shop

Earn Tokens by leveling up or completing Weekly Challenges. Use them to buy Season Presents — each contains a random item from a past season.

Badge Borders

Earn visual rewards for your profile. Start with Silver and move up to Cobalt, Gold, and Onyx. Badge Borders upgrade every 11 Tiers in the Rocket Pass.

Collection rewards

Track item types in your Collection Tab. Earn rewards by collecting full sets.

Compete in Ranked mode

Climb the Competitive Ranks by winning matches. Each season lasts several weeks, and ranks reset slightly at the end. For example, if you finish a season at Diamond III, you'll start the next at Diamond I.

Season rewards

At the end of each season, you’ll receive exclusive rewards based on your highest earned rank in any Ranked playlist. You must win at least one match at that rank tier to unlock the rewards. 

Season rewards apply to all ranked playlists — including standard, doubles, and rotating special modes like Hoops or Squash.

Rewards include:

  • Season Title: A badge showing your rank and season (e.g., “S24 Gold” or “S22 Heatseeker Diamond”).
  • Avatars / Banners: Visual profile items that reflect your achievement that season.
  • Rank-Tier Rewards: You receive items for your top rank and all lower tiers as long as you win a match at each tier.
