Why do I get the error "2K account is too young and is in a restricted age range for my region" when trying to play Civilization 6 multiplayer?

A couple of things can cause this problem:

  • Your install path may have special characters in it
  • Your Epic display name may have special characters in it
  • The Civilization 6 game file may be corrupt or damaged

Check your install path

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher
  2. Click on the three dots next to Civilization 6
  3. Click Manage
  4. Click on the Folder icon next to Uninstall
  5. Look at the installation path
  6. If the path contains special characters (e.g., #, !, *, ü, etc.), uninstall the game and reinstall it to a folder with only standard letters and numbers.

Check your Epic Games display name

  1. Go to your Epic Games account details: https://www.epicgames.com/account (Opens in a new tab)
  2. View your display name
  3. If there are any special characters, change your display name: How to change your Epic Games display name

Verify the game files

Verifying the integrity of your game files will check the files on your computer to ensure they are not damaged or corrupted. If some files are different, they'll be changed or repaired. Your saved data will not be affected.

To verify game files on the Epic Game Launcher:

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Find the game in your Epic Games Library.
  3. Click the three dots on the right side of the game line.
  4. Select Manage.
  5. Click the Verify button.
  6. Wait for validation to complete.
It may take a while to verify all your files.
