"Please wait while we start your update" error on the Epic Games Launcher

This error usually means that you're running a proxy server. 

Windows

Follow the steps below to disable it in Windows, then try connecting to the Epic Games Launcher again:

  1. Click on the Start menu (Windows icon at the bottom of the screen)

  2. Type: cmd

  3. Right-click on Command Prompt

  4. Select Run as Administrator

  5. In the Command Prompt, type: netsh winhttp reset proxy

  6. Press the Enter key

If the previous steps did not solve the issue, please open the Epic Games Launcher as an administrator: 

  1. Click on the Start menu (Windows icon at the bottom of the screen)

  2. Type: Epic Games Launcher

  3. Right-click on the Epic Games Launcher

  4. Select Run as administrator

If the previous steps didn't work, try restarting your PC and using a different internet connection, e.g., mobile data.

Mac

To disable a proxy server on a Mac:

  1. Click the Apple icon

  2. Select System Preferences

  3. Select Network

  4. Select the network service you want to disable the proxy for.

  5. Click the Advanced button

  6. Select the Proxies tab

  7. Uncheck all protocols under Select a protocol to configure

  8. Click OK 

     

You can also disable the proxy server in Safari:

  1. In the Safari browser, click Safari > Preferences

  2. Click the Advanced tab

  3. Next to Proxies, click Change Settings

  4. In the Proxies tab, uncheck any checked boxes

  5. Click OK

  6. Click Apply
