I can't install the Epic Games Launcher

Unable to install on Windows 

If you can't download and start the installer on Windows 10, try these steps. Because these are for Windows 10 they may vary slightly on other versions. 
Note: If you're using Windows 7, Windows 8, or a 32-bit version of Windows, the standard Epic Games Launcher installer won’t work. To download the legacy version of the Epic Games Launcher, refer to Can’t install the Epic Games Launcher on Windows 7, Windows 8, or 32-bit Windows
  1. Temporarily disable background applications. Refer to How do I disable background applications?.
  2. Make sure you have read/write access to the selected install path.
    1. Navigate to your selected install location.
    2. Right-click the installation folder and click Properties.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. Click on your username in the Group or user names box.
    5. Verify that there is a check under Allow beside both Read and Write in the Permissions box.
  3. Install the launcher using Command Prompt with administrator privileges 
    1. Download the latest version of the Epic Games Launcher from the Epic Games website (Opens in a new tab).
    2. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
    3. Go to your Downloads folder (or the folder where the installer was saved).
      Note: Do not move the installer. Moving it will break the installation path in later steps.
    4. Hold Shift and right-click the installer file, then select Copy as path.
    5. Press Windows and type CMD in the search bar.
    6. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
    7. In the Command Prompt window, type the following (but don’t press Enter yet):
      msiexec /i
    8. After a space, right-click to paste the path you copied earlier.
      Note: Your command should look like this: msiexec /i "C:\Users\YourName\Downloads\EpicInstaller.msi"
    9. Press Enter to run the installer.
  4. Try installing the Epic Games Launcher from the Microsoft Store
    1. Click Start
    2. Search for "Microsoft Store" and open it
    3. Within the Microsoft Store, search for "Epic Games Store"
    4. Select Install
  5. Make sure your Windows is up-to-date.
    1. Click Start.
    2. Type Windows Update and press Enter.
    3. Click on Check for Updates.
    4. Install any updates.
  6. Make sure your computer has the most recent graphics drivers.

Windows 10 - Epic Games Launcher is unable to reinstall due to a previous installation

Error: The older version of Epic Games Launcher cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.

Once you run the app, try installing the Epic Games Launcher again. 

This will also fix the error 'The Epic Games Launcher Setup Wizard Ended Prematurely'

Epic Games Launcher Installation Fails or is Corrupted

If you can't install or access games in the Epic Games Launcher, your antivirus program might be interfering. We have confirmed that one such antivirus program is 360 Total Security, but others may also be affected. 
The steps below work when using 360 Total Security and may also help with other antivirus programs: 
  1. Temporarily disable your antivirus software.
  2. Run the Epic Games launcher installer.
  3. After you successfully install the Epic Games launcher, re-enable your antivirus software.

Corrupted Folder

  1. Open the folder where you want to install the launcher.
  2. Right-click on the drive where the folder is located and select 'Properties' > 'Tools' > 'Error Checking'
  3. Check for errors.

Use msiexec to install the launcher

Msiexec is the Microsoft installer executable, running this as an admin from the command prompt may help install the launcher.

  1. Click on the yellow folder icon in the lower left corner to open File Explorer.
  2. Find the installer file, typically in the Downloads folder.
  3. Hold the Shift key + Right-click on the installer file.
  4. Select Copy as path.
  5. Press the Windows key + the S key to open the search bar.
  6. In the search bar type: cmd
  7. Right-click on Command Promp.
  8. Select Run as administrator.
  9. In the command prompt type: msiexec /i
  10. Right-click in the space after msiexec /i, this will copy the install location.
  11. Press the Enter key.

This should now install the launcher.

Hard Drive Disk Space

If you're installing a game and you're receiving an infinite "Verifying" or "Installing" status, check if you have enough space on your hard drive. During this process the game decompresses and requires a larger space in the hard drive than the one announced.
