Why I can't see other players in Fortnite public Creative Island lobbies?

In Fortnite public Creative Island lobbies, sometimes you may not see other players because of how matchmaking works in Creative.

Player Capacity: Each Creative Island has a set maximum number of players. If the island is already at max capacity, you may be placed in a new, empty instance of the map until more players join.

Matchmaking Population: For less popular islands or during certain times of day, you might find yourself alone or with very few other players, simply because there aren't many queueing for that island at the time.

Matchmaking Region: Fortnite generally matches players within their selected matchmaking region to reduce latency. Even if the island is popular globally, you will only be placed with players currently queueing in your region.

To increase your chances of seeing other players, we suggest that:

  • Make sure you're joining public Creative Islands via Discover.

  • Check that crossplay is enabled (if you are playing on a console)

  • Try selecting popular islands or play during peak hours
