How do I unlink my console account from my Epic Games account?
We highly discourage unlinking your console account from your Epic Games account for these reasons:
- Your Fortnite and Fall Guys game progress and purchases are stored on your Epic Games account, so once you unlink your console account, that console can no longer access that progress and those purchases. The data itself stays safe on your Epic Games account.
- If you launch a game like Fortnite on the console you just unlinked, that console is no longer connected to any Epic Games account, so Epic will automatically create a new, empty Epic Games account for it with no progression. Your original Epic Games account still exists with all your progress, you can sign in to it any time with your email and password.
- If you play Rocket League and you unlink the account where your progress is stored (typically the device/console where you play Rocket League the most), your inventory and XP level on that account will be reset.
- There is a restriction that prevents you from linking a new console account if the same console type was previously linked to your Epic Games account. You can refer to the section below: You previously linked a different [platform] account to your Epic Games account
If you still want to unlink your console account, follow the steps below:
- Visit your Linked accounts (Opens in a new tab) page.
- Scroll to: Your linked accounts
- Expand the linked account you want to unlink and select Unlink
- Follow the on-screen instructions to unlink your account.
You previously linked a different [platform] account to your Epic Games account
If you see this error when trying to link a new account, it means another account of the same platform was previously linked to your Epic Games account. You'll need to remove the linking restriction before you can link your new platform account.
Before you remove the restriction, do the following:
- If another account of the same platform is currently linked, unlink it first by selecting Unlink under that platform on your Linked accounts (Opens in a new tab) page and following the on-screen instructions.
- If you have an active Crew subscription on the platform account you're removing, cancel it first - you won't get any new rewards from it once unlinked.
Then remove the restriction and relink:
- Click here to remove the linking restriction.
Caution: You can only do this once every 365 days. - After the restriction is removed, go to your Linked accounts (Opens in a new tab) page, under Link an account select the platform icon, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the linking.
Caution: Double-check that you're linking the correct platform account before you confirm. - Once linked, open a game on your console and you should see all the progress of your Epic Games account.
