I enabled Two-factor authentication (2FA) but in Fortnite shows it is not active

  • If you have enabled Two-factor authentication (2FA), but Fortnite does not register the change this typically means the 2FA was activated on a different Epic Games account from the one you usually play on. If this is the case, check that you are logged in to the account for which you want 2FA enabled and enable 2FA for that account by following the steps in this article: Two-factor authentication (2FA) and how to enable it.
  • If you are playing on a console, it may happen that your Epic Games account does not have its own email address - which is required to enable 2FA.  You can check if this is the case very easily by following the steps below:
    1. Click this link (Opens in a new tab), which will open a new browser tab and sign you out of your current session before you continue with the next step.
    2. Once you are on the Sign in Screen, click on the logo of the platform you usually use to play (for example: PS, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam)

    3. Enter your Console account email and password
    4. If you see a screen with a title "Finish Setting Up Your Account" that means that your Epic Games account doesn't have an email address assigned. Proceed to next step.

If you instead get signed in the Epic Games account without seeing this screen, it is possible that browser remembered the sign in for another platform account of the same type. In this case, please open the incognito tab on the browser you are using and try this step again.
    5. After filling in all the required information, select Continue and follow the on-screen instructions
      • Completing this does not affect your progress and purchases, they will remain as they are.
    6. Once you are done filling missing information and signing in to your account, you can enable 2FA by going to Password and security (Opens in a new tab) page and choosing your preferred 2FA method
    7. Select Set Up next to your preferred 2FA method and follow the on-screen instructions to enable it
      • We recommend having at least 2 authentication methods enabled to help protect your account.
