Parental Verification FAQ

Why does Epic ask for a date of birth?

Some in-game features collect, use, and disclose a player’s personal information. In some countries, access to these features by a child requires a parent’s permission. If a user indicates that they are a minor under their country’s laws, we ask a parent or guardian to verify the account and provide permission to use our features.

How are accounts verified?

Parents or Guardians will be able to complete the verification process in three easy steps:

  1. Review and consent to Epic’s privacy practices:
Parents or guardians will be sent an email containing a link to a website that outlines Epic’s privacy practices.

  2. Select the level of content granted to the account:
After consenting to privacy practices, parents or guardians will be able to adjust some of the parental control settings on the account.

  3. Verify that they are an adult of legal age:
You may also be required to verify that you are an adult. Depending on your country, available methods may include placing an authorization or small refundable charge on a credit card, or checking some of your information against a public records database. If you have already been verified as an adult through our subsidiary Kids Web Services Ltd, you will not need to provide this verification information again.

Is that all?

Yes! Once an account has been approved, it is treated much like any other Epic account, with access to approved games (such as Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League), approved communications and social features (such as chat and friends lists), and other Epic services (such as access to the Epic Games Store). You will be able to use Parental PIN you set up during this process to set and change parental control settings in Fortnite and Epic Games Store.
