Stuck on Checking for Updates screen when launching Fortnite on Nintendo
This can happen when there is a miscommunication with the Epic Games servers. You can check the server statuses here: https://status.epicgames.com/ (Opens in a new tab)
Try these troubleshooting steps if there are no known server issues:
- Close Fortnite.
- Try connecting your Nintendo to a different network, and then change it back to your main Network.
Note: You can use a mobile hot spot if you only have one network - Delete Fortnite Data. This will not affect your progress or content in Fortnite:
- Go to console settings
- Then data management
- Delete save data
- Then select Fortnite
- Delete all save data for this program
- If you still see the error, try changing the DNS settings on your Nintendo Switch:
- Select System Settings from the home menu
- Select Internet Settings.
- Select Connection Settings.
- On the connection settings screen, select the connection file.
- Select Change Settings.
- Select DNS.
- On the following screen, where it says Auto-Obtain DNS, select No.
- Select Detailed Setup.
- Enter the following IP addresses:
- Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
- Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
- Select OK twice to return to the Edit Connection Settings screen.
- Select Save.
- Select OK.
- Select Test to begin the connection test.
- Restart your Switch.
- Relaunch Fortnite.
