Stuck on Checking for Updates screen when launching Fortnite on Nintendo

This can happen when there is a miscommunication with the Epic Games servers. You can check the server statuses here: https://status.epicgames.com/ (Opens in a new tab)

Try these troubleshooting steps if there are no known server issues:

  1. Close Fortnite.
  2. Try connecting your Nintendo to a different network, and then change it back to your main Network.
Note: You can use a mobile hot spot if you only have one network
  3. Delete Fortnite Data. This will not affect your progress or content in Fortnite:
    1. Go to console settings
    2. Then data management
    3. Delete save data
    4. Then select Fortnite
    5. Delete all save data for this program
  4. If you still see the error, try changing the DNS settings on your Nintendo Switch:
    1. Select System Settings from the home menu
    2. Select Internet Settings.
    3. Select Connection Settings.
    4. On the connection settings screen, select the connection file.
    5. Select Change Settings.
    6. Select DNS.
    7. On the following screen, where it says Auto-Obtain DNS, select No.
    8. Select Detailed Setup.
    9. Enter the following IP addresses:
      • Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
      • Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
    10. Select OK twice to return to the Edit Connection Settings screen.
    11. Select Save.
    12. Select OK.
    13. Select Test to begin the connection test.
  5. Restart your Switch.
  6. Relaunch Fortnite.
