BattlEye Launcher stuck at “Starting BattlEye Service…”

Sometimes, the BattlEye Launcher can get stuck showing the “Starting BattlEye Service…” message and it will prevent a game from launching.

This happens if something on your system prevents the installation/startup of the BattlEye Service, which is required to play on BattleEye-enabled servers. To resolve this issue:

  1. Please ensure that any security software (anti-virus, etc.) running on your system doesn’t block the BattleEye Service in any way. You might have to add it to your security software’s exception list.
    1. Check if both BEService.exe/BEService_x64.exe in your game’s BattlEye directory as well as the entire BattleEye Service directory, which is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye is being blocked by your security software.
  2. If adding BattlEye to your security software's exception list doesn’t help or you don’t use any sort of security software, there might be a permission issue with your BattleEye Service directory or the files within it. To solve this:
    1. Delete the BattleEye Service directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye)
    2. Try to launch your game again.
  3. If you still get the same error after Adding BattleEye to your security software's exceptions list and uninstalling the BattleEye Service and re-launching the game, manually set the BattleEye Launcher in your game directory to run with administrative privileges (normally this should happen automatically). To do so:
    1. Find the BattleEye Launcher executable in your program files (usually the executable file has _BE at the end)
    2. Right-click on the BattleEye Launcher executable
    3. Choose Properties
    4. Go to the Compatibility tab
    5. Check the Run this program as an administrator option
    6. Click OK to apply your changes.
  4. If you still can’t get it to work some unknown software running on your system might be blocking BattleEye somehow or certain parts of your operating system might be broken. We suggest following up with your device manufacturer or other PC support team to investigate and suggest a resolution.
