How do I adjust the Epic Games Launcher files to improve download speeds?

If you're experiencing connection issues or slower download speeds than expected in your Launcher, you can try editing the following file to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Try setting the download speed to Unlimited:
    1. Launch the Epic Games Launcher
    2. Click your Player Profile Icon (circle with first character of username) in the top right corner.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Go to Download Settings
    5. Uncheck Limit Download Speeds
    6. Restart Epic Games Launcher
    7. Try downloading your games again
  2. Try editing the.ini file:
    1. In the lower right corner on your computer, click on the arrow pointing up (the chevron)
    2. Right-click on the Epic icon in the pop up window
    3. Select Exit
    4. Click on Start
    5. Type %localappdata% and press Enter
    6. Open the EpicGamesLauncher folder
    7. Open the Saved folder
    8. Open the Config folder
    9. Open the Windows folder
    10. Open Engine.ini and add the following lines to it:

      [HTTP]
      HttpTimeout=10
      HttpConnectionTimeout=10
      HttpReceiveTimeout=10
      HttpSendTimeout=10
      [Portal.BuildPatch]
      ChunkDownloads=3
      ChunkRetries=20
      RetryTime=0.5

    11. Save the file and open the Epic Games Launcher.
