How do I identify and disable a proxy server so I can connect to the Epic Games Launcher?

Proxy servers often cause issues trying to use our services. Below are steps to identify if you’re using a proxy and how to disable it.

Identify if you’re running a proxy

There are two ways to determine if you’re using a proxy or not.

Proxy Settings

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Type Proxy Settings.
  3. Select Proxy Settings (System Settings).
  4. Under Manual Proxy Setup, if this is turned ON you’re running a proxy server.
Environment Variables
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Type Environment Variables.
  3. Select Edit the system environment variables.
  4. Click on Environment Variables.
  5. Look for http_proxy and if you locate it you’re running a proxy server.

Disabling a proxy server

Proxy Settings
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Type Proxy Settings.
  3. Select Proxy Settings (System Settings).
  4. Under Manual Proxy Setup, set this to OFF.
Environment Variables
  1. Click on Start.
  2. Type Environment Variables.
  3. Select Edit the system environment variables.
  4. Click on Environment Variables.
  5. Look for http_proxy and click on it.
  6. Click on Delete.
  7. Click OK.
