Stuck on Checking for Updates screen when launching Fortnite on Nintendo
This can happen when there is a miscommunication with the Epic Games servers. You can check the server statuses here: https://status.epicgames.com/ (Opens in a new tab)
Try these troubleshooting steps if there are no known server issues:
- Close Fortnite.
- Follow the steps in the Nintendo article How to Manage / Delete Game Save Data on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch (Opens in a new tab).
- Follow the steps in the Nintendo article How to Manually Enter DNS Settings on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch (Opens in a new tab).
- If you still see the error, try changing the DNS settings on your Nintendo Switch:
- Select System Settings from the home menu
- Select Internet Settings.
- Select Connection Settings.
- On the connection settings screen, select the connection file.
- Select Change Settings.
- Select DNS.
- On the following screen, where it says Auto-Obtain DNS, select No.
- Select Detailed Setup.
- Enter the following IP addresses:
- Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
- Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
- Select OK twice to return to the Edit Connection Settings screen.
- Select Save.
- Select OK.
- Select Test to begin the connection test.
- Restart your Switch.
- Relaunch Fortnite.
