Why am I stuck at the Checking for Updates screen when launching Fortnite on PlayStation?

This can happen when there is a miscommunication with the Epic Games Servers.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Server Status: Epic Games Server Status (Opens in a new tab)
  2. Reset your modem or router: How do I restart my modem or router to solve connection issues?
  3. Check Communication Settings:
    1. Close the Fortnite.
    2. Restore Licenses. For instructions, follow the steps in PlayStation's article How to restore licenses on PlayStation consoles (Opens in a new tab).
    3. Look for Network under the PlayStation Settings.
    4. Go to Set Up Internet Connection.
    5. Select Wifi/LAN depending on what you use to connect (LAN/wired connection is highly recommended).
    6. Select Custom/advanced settings (if you are on Wi-fi, you will need to select the Network and enter its password).
    7. Make sure the following settings are set with these selections:
      IP Address Settings (Automatic)
DHCP Host Name (Do Not Use)
      DNS Settings (Manual)
      Enter the following IP addresses:
      Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
      Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
    8. Select Next.
    9. Make sure the following settings are set with these selections:
    10. MTU Settings (manual) - add 1500
    11. Select OK
    12. Restart your PlayStation.
