If you receive this error, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Update your device drivers (including graphics card drivers). You can find more information on how to do this here: How do I update graphics card drivers?
  3. Run the BattlEye installer manually
    1. Open File Explorer (by pressing the Windows logo key and E on your keyboard at the same time), then go to the BE Service directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye).
    2. Run install_BattlEye.bat/install_BattlEye. This will install the BattleEye service.
    3. Run your game and see if this fixes your error.
  4. Add BattlEye to your security software's exception list
    • Check if both BEService.exe/BEService_x64.exe in your game’s BattlEye directory as well as the entire BattleEye Service directory, which is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye is being blocked by your security software.
  5. Delete the BattlEye Service directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye) and try to launch your game again.
  6. Run Fortnite and BattlEye as Administrator:
    1. Right-click the BattlEye Launcher executable
    2. Choose Properties
    3. Go to the Compatibility tab
    4. Check the Run this program as an administrator option
    5. Click OK to apply your changes
  7. Verify integrity of Game Files in EGS Launcher: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
