Why am I stuck at the Checking for Updates screen when launching Fortnite on PlayStation?

This can happen when there is a miscommunication with the Epic Games Servers.

Try these troubleshooting steps if there are no current known server issues and you have already restarted your internet router or modem:

  1. Close the Fortnite.
  2. Restore Licenses
    • For PS4 - Select (Settings) > [Account Management] > [Restore Licenses] > click restore
    • For PS5 - Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses> click restore
  3. After that, look for Network under the PlayStation Settings.
  4. Go to Set Up Internet Connection.
  5. Select Wifi/LAN depending on what you use to connect (LAN/wired connection is highly recommended).
  6. Select Custom/advanced settings (if you are on Wi-fi, you will need to select the Network and enter its password).
  7. Make sure the following settings are set with these selections:
    IP Address Settings (Automatic)
DHCP Host Name (Do Not Use)
    DNS Settings (Manual)
    Enter the following IP addresses:
    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
  8. Select Next.
  9. Make sure the following settings are set with these selections:
  10. MTU Settings (manual) - add 1500
  11. Select OK.
  12. Restart your PlayStation.
