Epic Games continues partnership with the National Basketball Association for ‘Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover’

Time to lace up -- the NBA has joined Fortnite for the first time with a partnership that brings basketball to nearly every part of the game.

Players can rep their favorite team inside Fortnite with the all-new “In the Paint Set,” which includes Outfits for all 30 NBA teams and a variety of customization options. The new Outfits entered the Item Shop on May 21 and are available until May 29.  NBA sensations Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young are also launching their personal favorite Fortnite Locker Bundles (Outfits and accessories), starting tomorrow, May 25, and available until May 31.

Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover has already enabled Fortnite players to put points on the board for their favorite team in Fortnite’s largest Team Battles Tournament ever. For five days (May 19-23), players all contributed to a leaderboard and helped crown the reigning NBA team in Fortnite - the Los Angeles Lakers team was victorious, followed by the Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets.

“We’re excited to see this crossover partnership between Epic and the NBA go live as the 2021 NBA Playoffs are underway,” said Matt Holt, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships at the National Basketball Association. “We know that many of the league’s players and millions of basketball fans around the world play Fortnite, and are glad they can now represent their favorite team and experience the NBA through the game”.

Starting tomorrow, basketball and the NBA are also taking over Fortnite Creative mode with the all-new NBA Welcome Hub. Live through May 31, the Hub features two brand new Creative Mode features, including a directly shoppable experience for the NBA Outfits as well as video screens that will feature NBA highlights throughout the week - the first time that  Fortnite has integrated video content into the game’s Creative mode.  Players can also use the Hub to jump into ‘Court Crashers’ - a brand new creative experience available for a limited time only, where players can launch themselves sky high through a series of obstacles and dunk into a massive hoop to score points alongside their teammates.

“The NBA represents so much more than basketball - it’s at the forefront of global culture, and one of the top things that Fortnite players tell us they want to see inside the game,” said Adam Sussman, President at Epic Games. “Entertainment and sports are critical parts of building a metaverse at Epic and within Fortnite, and partners like the NBA are helping to make it happen. This is just the beginning and we can’t wait to share more.”
