Introducing Time Limit Controls and Time Reports for Fortnite and UEFN

Today we are introducing two new parental controls: Time Limit Controls and Time Reports. These new parental controls will enable parents and guardians to manage and view how much time their child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).

How to Set Up Time Limit Controls

Parents will now see an option to set up time limits for their child’s account in the Parental Controls section in the Fortnite main menu, or on the Epic Account Portal on the web. If a parent chooses to enable this parental control, they can:

  • Limit the total amount of time their child can play per day.
  • Choose specific time windows when their child can play each day, and set time limits within that window.
  • Choose whether to allow their child to request more time as they approach the end of their time limit.
From Epic’s Account Portal, parents can sign into their child’s account to set up time windows and a total time limit.

How Time Limit Controls and Time Reports Work

If a parent sets up a time limit, their child will begin seeing in-game notifications when they have 30 minutes left in Fortnite and UEFN. Once the child reaches their limit, they will not be able to use Fortnite or UEFN until the next day or until a new window begins, unless a parent chooses to grant more time.

Players can request more time by going to the main menu in Fortnite, selecting “View Time Limits,” then choosing “Ask for More Time” if this setting is turned On.

Time Limit Controls work across consoles and devices. As long as the child is using the same account across devices, the limit parents set will be in effect for Fortnite and UEFN. Time Limits are paused if Fortnite or UEFN are inactive (when Fortnite enters Sleep Mode or UEFN goes idle).

If parents have opted into Time Reports, they will have access to a dashboard located in the Account Portal, which provides a daily breakdown of time spent in Fortnite and UEFN and indicates when they have granted extra time for their child.
After a parent enables Time Reports, they will be able to view how much time their child spent in Fortnite and UEFN, dating back to the day they turned it On, from the Account Portal.

Epic offers over a dozen Parental Controls that enable families to customize their Fortnite experience. These controls are in addition to high privacy defaults for younger players to provide additional protections from the start.
