Product Management

Technical Product Manager - Payments (R23834)

ABOUT US

Bandcamp is an online record store and music community where passionate fans discover, connect with, and directly support the artists they love. Artists have earned more than a billion dollars on Bandcamp. We believe that music is an indispensable part of the culture, and for that culture to survive, artists must be compensated fairly and transparently for their work.

Our team of 100+ people is sprinkled throughout the world, united in our desire to help artists connect with their fans and earn a living from their craft. Many of us are musicians, all of us are fans, and we see how our work helps artists every day. We use one guiding principle to decide what to build, write about, design, and support: will this help an artist connect with fans and put money in the artist’s pocket?

What You'll Do

Bandcamp is seeking a Technical Product Manager to help us improve upon and extend the capabilities of our payments software. You’ll have significant opportunities to have a meaningful impact, helping fans pay the artists they love.

The Payments team ensures that money moves securely and smoothly through Bandcamp’s systems, which now process millions of transactions a day. We work to create scalable, frictionless, and secure checkout experiences and to maintain our integrations with 3rd party payments platforms, enabling new and better ways for fans to pay artists. We think long and hard about database transactions, concurrency, performance, resiliency, security, and more! This role encompasses many interesting challenges and requires special diligence and an eye for details.

In this role, you will

  • Work with the Payments team to improve upon and ensure the reliable, secure and smooth operation of Bandcamp’s existing payments services.
  • Perform industry and technical research to identify opportunities of improvement and contribute to the technical strategy of our payments systems.
  • Work with Product and Engineering leads to expand Bandcamp into new markets and grow globally through the acceleration of new payment and payout methods.
  • Collaborate across the business within Bandcamp, Epic Games and beyond, to further improve accounting, reconciliation and reporting in a secure and compliant way.
  • Work closely with other Product and Engineering leads to understand their team’s roadmaps, in order to build a compelling strategy and roadmap for the Payments team that aligns with Bandcamp’s overarching mission.
  • Partner with Support and Data to monitor and measure the user impact and technical performance of our work.
  • Work closely with third party partners to maximize the services and benefits that they offer, and to help resolve integration issues and service outages by nurturing those relationships.
  • Write clear and compelling product briefs and specifications.
  • Lead the planning, scoping and prioritization of the backlog, and to generally help organize the team’s workload.
  • Optimize and document team processes, ceremonies and systems.

What we’re looking for

  • Prior experience working as an engineer or product manager on mission-critical payments systems, ideally at a two-sided marketplace or ecommerce company.
  • Payments domain expertise, such as familiarity with payments APIs and gateways, credit card and billing systems, double entry accounting, transaction processing pipelines, security and compliance.
  • Experience with SQL or similar tools to be able to conduct your own quantitative investigations.
  • Experience driving priorities and collaboration cross functionally.
  • Prior experience with Bandcamp as a fan or artist (or both), and an understanding of how our product works and what our community values.
