    Spy Car talk

A Spy is just half a spy without his car. Thats why im starting this thread about cars so we can discuss possibilities of having real cars in Spyjinx. I think it should not be a main thing in the game but rather something that can be cool to have as a side quest or just get around quickly. Because its not a main thing the cars do not have to be super sporty or fast but just normal every day cars. Something a real spy would drive not causing to much attention. As I said. Cars do not need to be the main part of the game but having cars could open a door to some closed track racing in game or side missions. I would like to have a garage in my spy lair mansion where I can look at my car/toy collection.

I personaly like old musclecars and I think alot of people like them as well. Thats why the Fast and the Furious charger is so popular over the other less known cars. It is said that the game is going to be diffrent, then think diffrent when it comes cars as well. No one will notice a spy sneaking around in an old AMC pacer, will they? Then if you have a Spy team you might need a van to sneak around in as well. Or just take the cab if someone dont like cars at all.

This brings up a second thing. License. Real cars cost money to have in a game. Games like Watchdogs, Maffia 1-3, GTA use made up cars in the game and that takes alot of time to make. These cars are from the game Driver San francisco. Carmakers have special rules when allowing their cars to be used. Some dont allow that the cars can run over people or other violent actions. I dont think Spyjinx will be a GTA playlike game. On the other hand using real cars makes the game more realistic and it also can be marketed diffrently. Carmaker could even pay to have some its cars in the game.

I have lots of more suggestions and tips for this. Even modding but lets just discuss Spy cars for now.

True a spy without a cool car is just a real spy I would suggest SUVs be an option.

Good choise. As I said before. I dont think cars will have a big role in Spyjinx but since I heard on Twitter they realy wanted me to post this thread, Im all for it.
I mentioned that if you have your own team they all should fit into a van or truck for the mission. As time goes by you be able to get better and better gear. Maybe from inventing them from scratch or get manuals to build them.
Same things with cars. It would be fun to play Q and build cars. Even maybe salvage a car from a scrapyard and then restore it. The other games I mentioned do not rely on a realistic driving of the cars and I do not think Spyjinks need it eather.
There is just fun to have a real car in the game. It would be interesting to know what BAD_ROBOT thinks of this? Brainstorming!

So lets check what cars is interesting that most driving games with real cars dont realy have figured out yet. Those cars that is requested the most is cars that are way to expencive to have in real life. Super cars. I watched this video where a Lambo and a Hot Rod was test drived around LA. Guess what car attracted what gender and age group: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rArpyMXT2ew
Yes, The Lambo attracted men between age 40-60 and the Hot rod attracted younger women. So, guys! Dont buy a supercar like that to pick up girls! I think this is the same for gaming. Now over to the cool cars. When the first "the fast and the furious" movie came out they made lots of diecast cars from the movie. Guess what car outsold ALL the other cars combined? Answer: The 1970 Dodge Charger.
So if the cars in a game is limited. you got the pick the right cars that fans will like. Ofcourse you should start smal with cheap cool cars and move up and when you are the super spy you should also be able to have some realy cool supercars on hand, but personaly I would like to keep the old cars and fix them up to be super cars as well. I think its way cooler to buy a cheap old car and spend alot of money on it then go buy an expencive new car right away. Here are some cool examples of cars that are alot more interesting then a regular Lambo, Ferrari or Bugatti

I feel like Archer does a really good job of including fun cars into the 'Spy' lifestyle. And the cartoony artwork makes the hard lines of the vehicles really pop.

Bond has always had that love of fast, flashy cars too. The Astons are now the quintessential Bond vehicle nowadays, but he's also driven Lotus', a Thunderbird, and that ill fated BMW during the Brosnen era.

My vote? Something sleek, executive, and fast. Like an Audi S7, or a high powered Mercedes of some sort... I don't remember all of their model numbers. They have the flash to be classy, the speed to be useful in a chase. The room to haul people or a sexy date to crash the villain's fancy party. And a lot of the faster models just look like slightly meaner versions of other cars in the lineup.

Or, I'll just take a DB5 and show myself out. Those cars are beautiful.

Archer looks interesting and there is talks about making a RPG game. And there are some real looking cool cars there like the Roadrunner and a Challenger.
When it comes to famous spies Bond is always on everyones mind. Now since Spyjinx will be aimd at the international market the cars could be international as well even if I like the american cars best. I think an italian spy would like to drive an Alfa Romeo. A german spy an Audi and an American spy a Dodge as an example, but its always good to mix it up a bit.

The DB5 is a nice car. Super cars could cause problems for a spy if the cars are realy rare. More talk about that later.

I would personally go for a Chrysler 300 it's an intimidating powerful roomy luxurious car that doesn't stand out.

Ahh, Yes, movie cars. That is one way to attract fans to a driving game by adding famous movie cars to the game. Only problem is that not only a car licens also a movie licens is required for having it in the game. Twice as expencive but could bring more attension to the game. If it was a driving game and not a spy game. Sure there are lots of Spy related cars but I think gamers would like to be themselfes. There also alot of ways to add cars to the game. Cars are like people, they are not all the same. Thats why customisation is a must now days so eveyone can custom their own cars. But first, here are some more movie cars.

So lets bring up supercars. They are fun to have and some people loves them, especialy game developers. But since alomst every cargame has them it kind of kills the fun. Everyone wants the fastest car in the game and that leaves it to just a few cars. The rest is no fun since they are slower. When it comes to a Spy game then its diffrent. Supercars are rare and they stand out making the spy an easy target to spot. Same thing if the roads are bad you would like something cheaper to blend in and that can take a beating. It takes alot to think out of the box when it comes to picking the right cars for a game like this. But then again. visiting a fancy casino the spy might go for something more luxury to blend in but maybe not the greatest car on the parkinglot. Thats why bond drive an Aston Martin and not a Zonda.

Before I go into mods for games I would like to point out that most games only add one version of each car. Usualy the most popular version even if there are lots of diffrent versions with V6-V8, LT, RT, RS, SS, GT, GS etc. Here is an example of how a Chevrolet Camaro from 1970-73 looks like with all the diffrent versions and options. If you go to a dealer or a scrapyard there should be some kind of randomizer of what kind of used car you will find. If you are lucky you might find a Z-28 1970 but then you should be more likely to find a six cylinder 1973 LT. So, Instead of just adding one car, make lots of diffrent versions of the same cars and the game will be alot more fun. I do not know if a special license is need for each version of the car.

PS: these renders was made by the great 3d modeler Robin7t4

Before I go into mods and what they can do I would suggest that if a Spy would start smal he would start with a smal vehicle. Even a bike to get around faster. As for the start I suggest that there should be plenty of vehicles to pick from or even craft with some puzzel or findings when doing simple missions. Everyone have diffrent interest in cars so if someone realy want to dig into building the ultimate spycar from scratch it could be possible. Even collect parts from mobile games. Those parts can ofcourse be for other spy gear that is needed in any spy game. Flamethrowers on a car anyone?
As you progress and earn more rewards so should also the car park grow and more expencive alternatives could come up. As I said before, you cant drive up with a crappy Ford Torino to a Casino if you want to be undercover. Same thing if you go to a bad neighbourhood in a Maserati. Blending in into the right place is good.

So, what about mods then? Especialy carmods in games. To say the truth, its pretty rare. But GTA have thousands of added carmods? Yes, but how many of those have been made from scratch and not converted from another game? realy few. Most cars are ripped from other games and just converted. Some are converted from various payed 3d models that can be found on alot of sites. No, the most rare cars are those who are made from scratch. Take the game Sims. Thousands makes content for that game. Only a handfull makes the 3d models themselfes. Only one guy makes cars and that is converted cars and not real 3d modells made from scratch. Same thing with mods for GTA. Right now I can just count to around 10 people that make real 3d car models just for the game. The rest are converted cars from other games or 3d sites. Then we have pure moddable games like Farming simulator and Euro Trucker that acctivily support mods for the game with their own tools and addons to good 3d programs. There we find alot of 3d tallents but only a few good 3d modelers. When we come to modding over all there is a page called nexus where we can find alot of various games. I bet you know them. Question is if Spyjinx would be a type of game that would work well with mods? If its realistic enough and some key components are added to work as blueprints I think it could make the game even more interesting. Take GTA San andreas. Its realy old but thanks to mods its still alive. Same with Skyrim. Still super poppular thanks to thousands of PC mods.
One more thing. Those who do put alot of time in making mods do it for their own interest. So if someone like old american cars he only wants to make those cars, whatever everyone else say.
Here is an example of a favorite mod I like for GTA. An Olds 1973. I bet if Bad Robot wants to add a cool car it would be a Chrysler Newport 1970

Yes, it could work as an interactive carshow as well. A Spy expo with gears that could include cars. If there was some kind of spy gear creation mod shop where you build your own design It could be fun to have a place to show of the creations to everyone. Another thing is it would be cool to have some sort of interactive spy mobile app that can be used for special events like rock festivals, game expos and car shows.

Back to car talk. Carmakers are searching for new ways to marketing their cars and including them in games is a way reach out to special target groups. Getting them into a games, It often comes with some special deals where one car is requested by the players but you only get it if you also include this less deired car. As an example: if you want a Dodge Challenger in the game you might also have to include a Fiat because they own Chrysler. Same thing with BMW you might have to include a Mini.
