Here's a list of answers to the most asked questions and some handy links for more information:

KNOWN ISSUES:
  • [Steam] Old profile not recognized
If you had a profile before May 31st 2014, but haven't played after that, you will have to create a brand new profile. Originally UT3 used Gamespy services which were shutdown on May 31st 2014. The game was updated to use it's own account system after that. Unfortunately some of the social features no longer work with the new account system. Note that this new profile is not related to your Epic Games account in new UT and this forum.

  • [Standalone] Game displays message "online service currently unavailable" on start-up
Gamespy services used by the game were shutdown on May 31, 2014. If you are using a standalone version of the game, you need to download and install a special patch, that will allow the game to use it's own accoubt system. You can get this patch from UTZone.de. When you launch the game next time you will have to create a new account. Unfortunately some of the social features no longer work with the new account system. Note that this new profile is not related to your Epic Games account in new UT and this forum.

Adding the game to Steam
If you have a physical copy of the the game, you can add it to your Steam library. For that you will need to open the Steam client and from menus at the top select "Games", then in the dropdown menu select "Activate a product on Steam" and follow the prompts. When asked for a key, enter the CD-Key that came with your game copy. This will allow you to download an up-to-date patched version right from the Steam.

Where to find official files - patches, bonus packs, Unreal Script source code, dedicated server package?
Patches and some of the bonuspacks can be found on UTZone.de.

Where to find guides and tips for running a server?
The most complete source for these is UnrealAdmin page. Make sure to check their forums!

Where to find custom content?
Maps can be found on MapRaider.com. Mods, mappacks, and maps can be found on UTZone.de

Installing custom content:
Mods, mutators, and maps sometimes have lots of types of content that have to be copied into the correct folders of the game based on file extension:

Documents\my games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\Script
  • .u
  • .upk

Where to buy:
- On Steam as a separate game or a part of Unreal Deal Pack.

Tips: using game directory for custom content
If the game is installed to a drive other than system drive, you can try storing the user content in the game's folder. To do that add "-nohomedir" to the game's command line.

For Steam version:
1. Find UT3 in Library, right-click it, then select Properties from the dropdown menu
2. On General tab click "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..."
3. In the new window type "-nohomedir" without the quotes:

4. Click OK and Close on the properties window

For regular version:
1. Right-click the game's shortcut, then select Properties from the dropdown menu
2. Add " -nohomedir" without quotes at the end of the Target field:

3. Click OK.

Now the game will store and look for your config, downloaded content and custom content in the game's folder. Before running the game make sure to copy/move the files from Documents/my games/Unreal Tournament 3 to UT3 folder.
