Carbon, sorry for my ignorance but how should your files be used? I've tried to manually copy them to the proper locations but didn't work. Do I need Blossom mod first? I couldn't find it anywhere.

After hundreds of years I've installed all UTs and UT3 really looks washed out.

No worries. I suppose it's possible that I have missed something, but let me outline a couple of things that might affect your setup.

First, I use the -nohomedir argument with my UT3.exe. This means that there is no folder created in "My Documents" which then means that the UTEngine.ini file would go into your "UTGame" -> "Config" folder. If you don't use the -nohomedir argument, then the file will have to be copied to your documents folder, in "My Games" -> Unreal Tournament 3" (I believe). The same with the UTBlossomMut.ini file.

The UTEngine.ini is set up for 2560x1440 @ 96Hz as well; this will need to be changed perhaps. The resolution can be set in the [SystemSettings] area and the refresh rate can be set in two areas; [Engine.Client] and [Engine.GameEngine] though with vsync set to 'false', this might not matter.

The Blossom mutator is the main file to manage the bloom and color of the image. For sharpness, the details would be in the UTEngine.ini where I have heavily tweaked the shadow resolution, depth cutoff and filtering as well as sharpness and clarity.

Hope this helps. If you still have issues, I will check into it further when I get home (in the office now).

EDIT: Here is the Blossom mutator; it will show you exactly where things should go (if that was the issue). Aside from this, the files you have should do the trick.

Hmm, something happened with my replay...

Thx a lot for Blossom! Game looks way better now. What they were thinking to make UT3 so GoW like.

Still don't know what to do with Sweet FX files

          Use ReShade.

Run the "Mediator" file and browse for UT3.exe. It should be a DX10 app (you can choose on the menu after selecting the .exe file), provided you have "UseD3D10" to "true" in the UTEngine.ini. You can then leave things at default within the program and choose "apply", then "Push permanently to the application". The defaults will enhance Ambient Occlusion and add Luma Sharpen, Vibrance and Bloom and If you get adventurous, you can mess with the settings. If you hover over the slider bars in each section, a short description will come up at the top. This might help but largely it's trial and error to get things the way you like.

I have also linked the best UT3 settings I found with SweetFX, although ReShade includes most of these settings. This needs manual copying of files and folders, while ReShade's "Mediator" does it for you.

Did you have any luck with the UTEngine.ini? This makes a big difference as well.

It would help to know your OS but the best solution would likely be to first download, then uninstall the old and finally re-install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable Package(s).

So i reinstalled ut3 aswell, reinstalled it, and started the game up between every patch. but it seems that its patch 5 that causes the error, is there a specific type of patch for 32 bit/64bit or operating system?

BeastFace...sorry for the long silence. Is it still not working? There is nothing particular about patch 5 regarding 32/64 bit. Did you follow the instructions on the first page, first post of this thread? It's a bit complex, but give it a try.

I use the "-nohomedir" argument with the shortcut as well; it makes all of the files stay in the install directory. I don't know if this matters at all, but I like to keep things organized.

Post back (I'll watch this thread a bit more attentively!) and let me know how it's going. Maybe you could elaborate on the error you're getting after patch 5? That would help to try to solve the problem.
