    UT3 UIG Introduction
This [non-profit] document, which is neither affiliated with Epic Games, nor supported by them, is a guide only. It aims to be as accurate as possible, to help UT3 gamers/ developers get the most out of UT3. Due to regional variances, the gathering & processing of information and other factors, some information may be inaccurate/ outdated.
Use at your own risk. Anyone, whether directly or indirectly, involved in this document should be excluded from the accountability or responsibility of any issues caused to your game &/or equipment from using this guide.
Some of this information can be adapted for other Unreal & Unreal Engine Based games

    Before we get started
    • Make a backup of your UT3 DVD, this will save your DVD\ Drive & its laser
    • UT3 occasionally asks for your CD-Key
    • UT3 is prone to all sorts of madness happening; this entire guide is ‘optional’ but will help. It is designed to improve your Unreal experience and is the most comprehensive UT3 guide available.
    • The installation of the first 3 updates to UT3 White edition are not required.
    • Users are required to simply install “Patch 4”, followed by the “Bonus Pack”, the “The Titan Pack” and then “Patch 5”. Finally “The GameSpy Patch” is required to play online.
    • The “UT3-Update-Kit”; is a <3GB pack containing all official patches & updates including; the PS3 ModTools, the Ageia and NVidia PhysX Packs, Web-Admin, TitanTeamFix, the OrbFix & the GameSpy patch.
    • UT3 is a *32 bit program, as such, it has limitations that cannot be overcome.
    • UT3 Runs in DX9 by default, this guide will show you how to use DX10.

    Notes:
    Patches/add-ons:
    • When installing patches extracted files are temporarily placed in your folder here: Local\ Temp\”RarSFX0”. You can grab the files and keep them before they get auto-deleted. You do not have to do this but the files may be useful if you would like to setup a server without running the patches again.
    • To get the files run the patches, wait for the extraction to complete and grab them before you click/ run the install/ agreements/ next button.
    Uninstallation/ Re-Installation
    • Please note that it is not necessary to ‘Un-install’ patches
    • To Un-install UT3 please use the “Setup.exe from Disc” or “control panel”

    Patch Notes

Each official patch comes with its own installer and information. It makes a good read whilst you wait for the files to install. The following is an overview of the other patches and some historical notes.

    Ageia/ PhysX Notes:
    • Ageia was taken over by NVidia, as a result of this multiple versions of the PhysX & Ageia Packs exist.
    • The majority of the online community, for years, have used the NVIDIA PhysX pack.
    • PhysX Dev/ PhysX map makers have been using the Ageia files commonly downloaded from MODDb (uploaded by user ambershee).
    • Users should now install the original AGEIA PhysX Master Installer and the fixed versions I have provided; as I have finally found it and it takes a great deal of time to fix the content.
    • The Ageia pack contains numerous files that differ to its successor (NVIDIA)
    • It is recommended that you simply keep a backup of the “AgeiaPhysX” content from the Published folder and use the content provided in the “UT3-Update-kit”
    • Don’t delete the unpublished folder contents; this is the Ageia mod-kit.
    • I have fixed any error in maps & recreated ‘fake’ versions of the missing files never released for people who wish to make PhysX UT3 content.
    • I also fixed missing package references, created new PhysX code, PhysX maps and fixed issues with the PhysX CTF & DM maps
    • Users can also try the “fixed” PhysX CTF / DM maps that I have provided for both online and offline gameplay, they provide a much better experience

    Gamespy/ Online Notes:
    • The gamespy patch is contained within a new UT3.exe, swap this with the old one to Play UT3 Online.
    • Gamespy no longer exists, this patch is required for Online play.

    PS3 Mod Tools 2.1 & PS3 Sound Tools:
    • These files assist the cooking and publishing of custom content for the PS3 console

    #____________#
    -PAGE 08:-
    #____________#

    Essential Files

These essential files are a part of UT3 in their own right. These include both official and unofficial patches/ fixes. Online gameplay will often require such files and this section will explain where to put them.
Install the following additional files in [DIR: 02]:
    • Create this folder setup, in [DIR: 02] “My Documents”… if you have not already.

UT3 should have already done this for us…
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomMaps
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomWeapons
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomVehicles
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomChars
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\Script
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\Config
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\UnPublished\CookedPC\ [For Devs/ mappers]

    Add OrbFix
    • Official Orb fix need for warfare Online/ Offline
    • Prevents a Bug where the Orb did not show up.

    Titan Team Fix
    • Another file that should be official, it basically re-balances teams

    UT3 Webadmin
    • Useful for running UT3 servers, most servers run this online

Congratualtions UT3 is installed and updated. Now for some Required configuration changes.

    Configuration changes:

Configuration changes are recommended to get the most of UT3. This section provides important fixes to issues, demonstrates adding key bindings, unlocking extra maps, characters and real time reflection for teleporters etc (all important stuff). Many tutorials exist online that explain each change in-depth, so I have simplified the process.

    UT3 Install File Directory [Dir]2 :

    • Backup the original config files then change them to look like this guide
    - Please change settings according to personal preference
    - if you mess things up or delete the file. UT3 should create a new one on start-up, if one is not present, if not you have your backup.

    UTEngine

    END NOTES:
    # This guide has nothing to do with personal preference, or how one individual feels UT3 should look with additional mods.
    # It is specifically designed to get a perfect Install of UT3.
    # Please refrain from advising users of this guide to install mapmixer, sweetFX or any other unneccesary content that will change how the default, but correctly patched and updated game should look.
    # Map mixer may be a useful tool, but it detracts from the orginal UT3 too much and has no home here.
    # SweetFX is a terrible mod that destroys how the contents for UT3 should look. Authors design content & maps to look a specific way. This thread is not about your personal preference.
    # I apologize that i am unable to provide support for Wine, Linux, or any OS other than Windows

Nice. One thing you should have also mentioned is MapMixer, which completely revamps the menu.

Also would be interesting to note how to install the game on Wine. I tried it several times, it installs, but upon running it just crashes for me...

I've installed UT3 but am having MAJOR issues. Here's a post that I created here so you can read all of the issues that I'm having with UT3 AND UT2004 not being able to launch at all.

      https://forums.epicgames.com/threads...-1-Please-Help

Very disappointed that I can't have either game work and have NO CLUE where to turn as nothing is working. Any input from anyone here would be greatly appreciated!!!

            • if people would like the Missing PhysX development Kit contents i have faked the unpublished packages/ missing references

Great post TKBS. I have seen this guide before on your site I guess..?

Anyhow, for anyone who is into eye candy, I have spent way too much time tweaking UT3 game files. I have put the Blossom mutator, SweetFX files and my UTEngine.ini together. I thought I would post them here but they won't be of much use for competition; just for looks! Set for 24xAA and 16xAF; these values may need to be changed depending on your system.

                  Dear mediafire.com:

The Entertainment Software Association ("ESA") is a U.S. trade association that represents the intellectual property interests of companies that publish interactive games for video game consoles, personal computers, handheld devices and the Internet (hereinafter collectively referred to as "ESA members"). A list of ESA members can be found at
http://www.theesa.com/about/members.asp. Under penalty of perjury, we affirm that ESA is authorized to act on behalf of ESA members whose exclusive copyright rights we believe to have been infringed as described herein.

ESA is providing this notice to request that you immediately take action with respect to infringements that are occurring at the addresses identified on the attached list.

The material located on and/or being distributed from the URLs listed on the attached is infringing the copyright rights of one or more ESA members by copying and distributing unauthorized copies of game products, in violation of applicable copyright laws. The copyrighted works that have been infringed (hereinafter referred to as "Infringing Material") are identified on the attached list by their titles or variations thereof.

Because infringement of ESA member copyrighted works by and through your website appears to be significant and widespread, the attached list of titles is a "representative list" identifying a sample of the works infringed. The attached list is not by any means exhaustive of the ESA member works infringed by and through your website. As the law makes clear, a copyright claimant need not identify every infringing work on a site, but rather only a representative list of such works at that site. Having been so informed of the nature and scope of infringement being claimed, the site operator must act to address all infringement on that website, not merely the identified representative examples.

Given the infringing activity, the ESA urges you to cooperate with its efforts to protect the intellectual property rights of its members companies and immediately do the following:

Immediately take steps to remove or disable access to all of the Infringing Material.
Notify any user who may have participated in reproducing or distributing the Infringing Material that their conduct was illegal and could be subject to enforcement.
Avoid the same Infringing Material being reposted by the same or other users.
Take appropriate action against any responsible user, including termination of repeat offenders.

ESA has a good faith belief that the use of the Infringing Material in the manner described herein is not authorized by the copyright owners, their agents, or the law. The information in this notification is accurate. Under penalty of perjury, we hereby affirm that ESA is authorized to act on behalf of ESA members whose exclusive copyright rights we believe to have been infringed as described herein. By providing this notice, neither ESA nor its members are waiving any claims or remedies, or their right to engage in other enforcement activities, and all claims, rights and remedies are expressly reserved.

You or the account holders that posted any of the files at the URLs described above may contact ESA at the above-listed contact details, with email preferred. Please include the above-noted Reference Number in the subject line of all email correspondence.

Thank you for your cooperation and prompt response in this matter.

                  Sincerely,

I really appreciate the support and the PM's from the moderator's. Thank you Epic/ Flak/ _Lynx

You can trust that the files are 100% legitimate, they are just the patches and fixes needed to play UT3 and i don't support piracy. I will see what the outcome of this is and if anyone has trouble accessing the files then you can PM me.

Thought I would add the images below as they are relevant to the discussion.

Top images show the game at default settings (but with a crazy FOV in the first shot) with DOF, bloom and overall the colors are somewhat muted. Below them are shots from my tweaked install. Config files are here.
