    UT3 UIG Introduction
    This [non-profit] document, which is neither affiliated with Epic Games, nor supported by them, is a guide only. It aims to be as accurate as possible, to help UT3 gamers/ developers get the most out of UT3. Due to regional variances, the gathering & processing of information and other factors, some information may be inaccurate/ outdated.
    Use at your own risk. Anyone, whether directly or indirectly, involved in this document should be excluded from the accountability or responsibility of any issues caused to your game &/or equipment from using this guide.
    Some of this information can be adapted for other Unreal & Unreal Engine Based games


    Before we get started
    • Make a backup of your UT3 DVD, this will save your DVD\ Drive & its laser
    • UT3 occasionally asks for your CD-Key
    • UT3 is prone to all sorts of madness happening; this entire guide is ‘optional’ but will help. It is designed to improve your Unreal experience and is the most comprehensive UT3 guide available.
    • The installation of the first 3 updates to UT3 White edition are not required.
    • Users are required to simply install “Patch 4”, followed by the “Bonus Pack”, the “The Titan Pack” and then “Patch 5”. Finally “The GameSpy Patch” is required to play online.
    • The “UT3-Update-Kit”; is a <3GB pack containing all official patches & updates including; the PS3 ModTools, the Ageia and NVidia PhysX Packs, Web-Admin, TitanTeamFix, the OrbFix & the GameSpy patch.
    • UT3 is a *32 bit program, as such, it has limitations that cannot be overcome.
    • UT3 Runs in DX9 by default, this guide will show you how to use DX10.

    Notes:
    Patches/add-ons:
    • When installing patches extracted files are temporarily placed in your folder here: Local\ Temp\”RarSFX0”. You can grab the files and keep them before they get auto-deleted. You do not have to do this but the files may be useful if you would like to setup a server without running the patches again.
    • To get the files run the patches, wait for the extraction to complete and grab them before you click/ run the install/ agreements/ next button.
    Uninstallation/ Re-Installation
    • Please note that it is not necessary to ‘Un-install’ patches
    • To Un-install UT3 please use the “Setup.exe from Disc” or “control panel”

    This Guide will call the main install location [Dir: 01]
    • Install the DVD\ main game to your chosen location [Dir: 01]
    • Do not install new mods and additional files here
    • Only on rare occasions should files be installed/ changed here {Domination, PhysX}.




    This Guide will call the Additional File installation location [Dir: 02]

    Unreal Tournament 3 Black Edition

    Release Date: xx /2009
    • Run Game
    • Install “Patch 4 v2.0”
    • Install AGEIA PhysX pack:“AGEIA_UT3_Master_Installer”
      • It will create a folder in [Dir] 2 called “AgeiaPhysX”/”AgeiaTutor”
      • There is a patch for the “HeatRayPhysXBeta” map, but it is not required because the next step will do this for us.
    • Install “NVIDIA_PhysX_UT3ModPack”
      • It will create a folder in [Dir] 2 called “NVIDIAPhysX”
    • Install “Bonus Pack”
    • Install “Titan Pack”
    • Install “Patch 5 v2.1” Retail All-In-One Patch
    • Install PS3 Mod Tools 2.1 & PS3 Sound Tools
      • Allows maps to be cooked for PS3 with custom sound support/ update
      • These should always be installed last
    • Install the GameSpy Patch, so that you can play online
      • Swap the UT3.exe with the Gamespy patch UT3.exe

    Patch Notes

    Each official patch comes with its own installer and information. It makes a good read whilst you wait for the files to install. The following is an overview of the other patches and some historical notes.

    Ageia/ PhysX Notes:
    • Ageia was taken over by NVidia, as a result of this multiple versions of the PhysX & Ageia Packs exist.
    • The majority of the online community, for years, have used the NVIDIA PhysX pack.
    • PhysX Dev/ PhysX map makers have been using the Ageia files commonly downloaded from MODDb (uploaded by user ambershee).
    • Users should now install the original AGEIA PhysX Master Installer and the fixed versions I have provided; as I have finally found it and it takes a great deal of time to fix the content.
    • The Ageia pack contains numerous files that differ to its successor (NVIDIA)
    • It is recommended that you simply keep a backup of the “AgeiaPhysX” content from the Published folder and use the content provided in the “UT3-Update-kit”
    • Don’t delete the unpublished folder contents; this is the Ageia mod-kit.
    • I have fixed any error in maps & recreated ‘fake’ versions of the missing files never released for people who wish to make PhysX UT3 content.
    • I also fixed missing package references, created new PhysX code, PhysX maps and fixed issues with the PhysX CTF & DM maps
    • Users can also try the “fixed” PhysX CTF / DM maps that I have provided for both online and offline gameplay, they provide a much better experience



    Gamespy/ Online Notes:
    • The gamespy patch is contained within a new UT3.exe, swap this with the old one to Play UT3 Online.
    • Gamespy no longer exists, this patch is required for Online play.




    PS3 Mod Tools 2.1 & PS3 Sound Tools:
    • These files assist the cooking and publishing of custom content for the PS3 console

    Essential Files

    These essential files are a part of UT3 in their own right. These include both official and unofficial patches/ fixes. Online gameplay will often require such files and this section will explain where to put them.
    Install the following additional files in [DIR: 02]:
    • Create this folder setup, in [DIR: 02] “My Documents”… if you have not already.




    UT3 should have already done this for us…
    • \Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomMaps

    Add OrbFix
    • Official Orb fix need for warfare Online/ Offline
    • Prevents a Bug where the Orb did not show up.




    Titan Team Fix
    • Another file that should be official, it basically re-balances teams




    UT3 Webadmin
    • Useful for running UT3 servers, most servers run this online

    RypelCam:

    UT3 has built in Demo recording that allows matches to be played back. RypelCam greatly advances upon this.
    - Provides improved demo recording functions
    - Install RCam by following the instructions that come with it

    The CBP3 The community Bonus Maps (1-5):

    - A collection of community maps and mods.

    UT Assault:

    - Official gametype ported from old unreal games to UT3 by the community
    - After installing Assault, Run the game once to generate the UTAssault.Ini & Change the 2 lines to look like this;

    Configuration changes:

    Configuration changes are recommended to get the most of UT3. This section provides important fixes to issues, demonstrates adding key bindings, unlocking extra maps, characters and real time reflection for teleporters etc (all important stuff). Many tutorials exist online that explain each change in-depth, so I have simplified the process.

    UT3 Install File Directory [Dir]2 :

    • Backup the original config files then change them to look like this guide
    - Please change settings according to personal preference
    - if you mess things up or delete the file. UT3 should create a new one on start-up, if one is not present, if not you have your backup.

    UTEngine
    Play UT3 with PhysX Enabled:

    • Change bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False
    • to bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=TRUE.
    This will improve performance

    • Most changes can be made in game/ settings, some changes can only be made via config changes. I have only included some of these;

    Unlock extra characters & body parts

    To unlock more characters and hidden body parts, there are a few things that can be done;


    • In UT3 Game/ Menu Screen Press “F10” & type “UnlockAllChars”
    • Click the "Unlock Character” at the character selection screen then enter one of the following codes to unlock the corresponding character.
    • Type: phayder
    • Type: jihan
    • In the UTCustomChar.ini config file you can change lines from bLocked="False" to true

    I bought a second-hand UT3 DVD version and went ahead and installed the patch5 immediately. Should I install the patch 4 as well or is it included in the patch5 ?
    If I have to install the patch4, should I uninstall the game and start over, or can I do it even though I have already install patch 5?

    Hey thanks for doing this! A few rough spots in the guide I will try to take the time and explain later. Main concern now is the UT3 Assault addon/mod/patch is missing, and I can not select an Assault gametype. How do I get Assault to work?

    BeastFace...sorry for the long silence. Is it still not working? There is nothing particular about patch 5 regarding 32/64 bit. Did you follow the instructions on the first page, first post of this thread? It's a bit complex, but give it a try.

    I use the "-nohomedir" argument with the shortcut as well; it makes all of the files stay in the install directory. I don't know if this matters at all, but I like to keep things organized.

    Post back (I'll watch this thread a bit more attentively!) and let me know how it's going. Maybe you could elaborate on the error you're getting after patch 5? That would help to try to solve the problem.

    So i reinstalled ut3 aswell, reinstalled it, and started the game up between every patch. but it seems that its patch 5 that causes the error, is there a specific type of patch for 32 bit/64bit or operating system?

    It would help to know your OS but the best solution would likely be to first download, then uninstall the old and finally re-install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable Package(s).

    Use ReShade.

    Run the "Mediator" file and browse for UT3.exe. It should be a DX10 app (you can choose on the menu after selecting the .exe file), provided you have "UseD3D10" to "true" in the UTEngine.ini. You can then leave things at default within the program and choose "apply", then "Push permanently to the application". The defaults will enhance Ambient Occlusion and add Luma Sharpen, Vibrance and Bloom and If you get adventurous, you can mess with the settings. If you hover over the slider bars in each section, a short description will come up at the top. This might help but largely it's trial and error to get things the way you like.

    I have also linked the best UT3 settings I found with SweetFX, although ReShade includes most of these settings. This needs manual copying of files and folders, while ReShade's "Mediator" does it for you.

    Did you have any luck with the UTEngine.ini? This makes a big difference as well.
