    [CONCEPT ART] Character Design Spread - Lauren/Kaira/Sapphire

    Hey everyone,

    I felt like whipping up some character designs, chose to do some of the UT characters as well as a new one. The purpose here is to sort of shotgun designs out to the community and see what sticks. I took some liberties with the design of the characters, so I'm aware they are a little outside the typical UT aesthetic, but personally I think the variety would be welcome.

    As well I'd like to preface any comments with this: I am not a concept artist. I am a sketch artist, continually trying to get better, and I admire the other talented artists on this forum for their exceptional work, so please refrain from comments on the quality. The idea would be if another artist though the design was compelling we could work together to realize it.

    With that out of the way, let me know what you think! I plan to do a few more of these for other characters.

    I really like the cyberpunk vibe of the center one! Anyway, I think she should look a bit more aggressive/raw due the conditions she should face in the arenas.

    Regarding Lauren and Sapphire, you did a really nice job! I'd suggest to take inspiration from Taye's armor to improve Lauren's, since they are part of the same team. It's just a thing to follow the current art direction.

      Nope ! Taye is (was ?) in the Thundercrash team (Malcom's team) where Lauren was in the Iron guard in UT99 and in UT3, and in the Mercenary team in UT2k3/2k4. And in UC2 she was a Necris in the Thundercrash team along with Sapphire, Anubis and Malcom... Yeah I don't know what to say about that last part.

      Anyway, you Lauren sketch reming me of the Gooba's concept, especially the upper armor which I think have some similarities with the first concept armor. You can check it here : https://www.epicgames.com/unrealtour...t=lauren+gooba

      For Sapphire, don't hesitate to play on her (pardon the language, but it's really it) "b*tch" side. She' extremely sexy, she's aware of that, and she definitely play with it. That's one of her main characteristic. You can totally see her taunting boys like : "Take a good look, cause it will be the last one".
      So a kind of femme fatale or Widowmaker. Or both ! But that you see right at the heart of the combat instead of pulling some strings.

        Yeah! I actually spent some time there drawing influence from the art, there was something a little off about it so I tweaked it in my design, based purely on personal preference. I also noticed attention had faded from that thread so I thought I'd bring up the concept again.

        As for Sapphire, it's interesting that you mention that, I have some ideas regarding how the characters are presented and their personalities, which line up more with a system for characters. I plan to either write up or make a video further explaining my idea shortly, I'll post about it here as the two go hand in hand, but I'd like to keep this particular thread to the visual design of the characters.
