This was just to badass for me to not take a crack at. Quick, low res, sculpt from tonight.
Could definitely put in the work to turn this into a more full character if its the direction the Skaarj are going to go.

That's really sweet, dude. Not bad for a first pass. Your approach makes him real predator like. ;P

The eyes seem a bit too wide from each other... maybe squeeze them in a bit?

Here's a more cleaned up version work in progress.

If you wanna take a knack at sculpting it, feel free! Thanks Vailias, for taking a shot. Can't wait to see what you're coming with.

Cheers Tim! Glad you liked the initial direction.
Didn't have time to get to the body tonight, but I did narrow the eyes and made a second version with tusks rather than horns, as is more typical of the Skaarj.
Not sure which I like better. I'm thinking wider with horns or narrower with tusks.

Hahaha, now it's toooo narrow. :P Nudge it out a bit.

Personally, I think your approach with the horns is pretty sweet. Maybe it could be a variant of some sort, you know? He works just fine with either tusks, or horns.

Got some work in on the body tonight. Started from a muscular male base I sculpted a while back. Haven't done a ton with it yet and plenty of anatomical wonkyness is in there. I'm thinking something like a crocodile tail for the end goal.
I went a bit more massive than your concept, as I recall some discussion about people liking the massive torso of the older Skaarj concepts from other games. (might have been in the livestream last week)
Its definitely still in the "guy in a suit" phase, but with some more work this should turn properly alien. Click image for larger version

I totally agree! Perfect skaarj. Since its head is flat, it makes it look even more like a predator but to me, this isn't an issue. In fact, it makes them look much more insectoid. Skaarj are supposed to be both reptilian and insectoid.

the tail should more be like in the body.. like more growing up/in it's so .... looks like .. glued added ...
the tail it is an vertebral column which goes further and not glued added *g*

Looks like a step in the right direction so far. I'm doing some illustration studies with him in action. I'm sculpting one myself too, but I'm LOVING your approach so far. Keep going man!

Hahaha, that was my primary concern when I designed the concept drawing. I didn't want to retract from what a Skaarj was, but rather, make him more of a humanoid structure. There is something psychological that says 'powerful' and 'intimidating' when human qualities are brought in.

Lol! It is glued on. Its actually a fully separate object at the moment till I get it positioned right and the hips and posture modified to accommodate that much musculature and mass hanging off the back.
I added that at about 2am before I fell into bed, cause a Skaarj just had to have some kind of tail to be seen in public.

Thanks! I'm planning to put more time in on this guy soon. Been stymied a bit the past few days.
I look forward to seeing your 3d version!

                            Bringing it all together.

The tail still needs work at the end. The feet and hands still need to be done at all, and the scaly pattern is more of a test than anything else.
Went back to the wider head, as I think it looks better with the heavily built body.
                            Turnaround and pic below.

+1 totally correctly man ! need only glowing eyes in the dark , between red and yellow, if comes out of the dark ... *g*

edit: oh it haves, but need only a bit glowing *g*
now need it only claws on hands and feets and bio-knives on the arms ..

by the way... between the legs, should be an "coupling"-placket/slot like by crocodiles to be more believablec/credible/plausible ..

hummm.. the tail ...... it's like an Croco, but should be more as an Alien.. maybe with an single "rib/ribble" to the end in the middle ?

hey by the way, i have make on stronger-monsterhunt.de(mh.blackysgate.de)
an forum and download possibility from different things & MH Maps and textures from ut99.. by the way ..

                              best regards

Very nice, man. I love the progress you have so far. From the back view, it shows a lot of inspiration from a predator. Was that your intention? haha. The wider version definitely works; it fits in with the approach of the body you're going for. I like that he's getting the macho treatment.

Arms definitely need to show some of that too; I'm sure that there are some Skaarj who have well-developed arms. They fit fine, though. Although the view from the 3/4th's looks like it could be inflated just a tad bit... not too much. Was the tail completely welded in, or did you / do you have it as a separate subtool and then welded it in? Dynamesh?

I'm really liking it man. Some point, I'll PM ya and maybe we can talk about it from time to time, if that's cool.
