    Unreal Tournament Concept Art

    Hey everyone,

I am currently working on some concept art for the new game. I hope to keep this thread going for as long as I can or until the game comes out. I know that the community is in the early stages of development but I wanted
to share with you my vision for the next Unreal Tournament game.

My inspiration obviously comes from Unreal Tournament. I am into the classic 1999 version and I decided to sprinkle a bit of Bladerunner & The Running Man into it. I hope to continue to add new artwork when I can and time permits it.

Well, I think you're onto something with the balance of muted and colorful, but the overt amount of shadow does not suit UT. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think being able to utilize shadow is important, but overall the level design and visual design of the game should maintain a middle range in terms of brightness. Not washed out, not too dark. Shadow and light should accent.

I do want a somewhat dystopian feel, but what you are communicating in those initial images seems more suitable for single player than multiplayer to me.

I look forward to more though, keep it up.

I think these are great, it captures the feel of the dreary map. If you know the map yes it is kinda dark, I like these alot!!! Dreary if you do not know is a map from UT and has had many variations. The first image is exceptional and I think it captures the feel of that map wonderfully! keep up the good work!

Thank you for the comment. I am sure the final version wont be as dark. Like he said, Dreary is kind of a dark map. In this picture, I tried to keep that feel of the 1999 version but make it a much larger environment, like a Arena. The wonderful thing about Concept Art is, it doesn't have to exactly match the final product, its just there to give the designer ideas to toss around.

Looks great, the second image has some kind of arena feel to it. Mybe something for bombing run / deathball / rocket arena (UT99).

Although I like the art, I feel you have to take in consideration that because UT is a competitive game players will turn up their brightness until they can see every corner of the map. Also, because UE4 supports global illumination, maybe that is something you can take into consideration by creating concept art and tackle the problem at the root.

I dont have the skills to draw myself, but if i did I would really like to see UT artstyle pushed into the direction of Starwars games.

                  Examples:

I would argue Hawken over Star Wars

I think that's way to much clutter.

UT once already had eye candy over clarity... Remember UT3? We really should go with the rule "less is more".

                          Actually that first shot:
                          http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/st...g?t=1396899882
Works really well. There's some detail that could be pulled out, and overall the tonal range stays pretty tight. If the characters are generally brighter and slightly ignore local lighting, I don't think it's too much. Keep the stuff around eye and ground level less detailed than everything above.

I just realized which thread this is. Sorry to keep things off topic, Krenum! Hope to see more from you soon!
