How can I change the settings?

I tried changing the settings but I can't reach it. Is there an alternative why I can change it?

There should be a gear-shaped icon (a cog) in the upper right of the launcher and in the game (if you press "esc"). All of the settings are in a drop-down menu.

Yes I understand, but the game auto set to a faulty setting and now that part of the screen is obscured.
