Stolid repliedFrom the top of my head only Run, Crouch and Jump speed and gravity are the same. Character size and dodges have had several changes.

Dirk Mijer repliedHey guys! A bit late to the party, but I'm working with Unreal Tournament 4 for a school project.
Are these metrics all still accurate, or did they change over the last two years?

Stolid repliedI agree with simply using Unreal Units everywhere.
This page shows it isn't as simple as UUs being a specific size or just being able to convert by a number between engines
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:...And_Dimensions
On top of that I would just drop anything but hardcore for UT99, no one used anything else and it just adds clutter.
Something else I think might work better is to simply pick a scale factor (I think the devs use 2.18(?) for UT99 stuff) and show the percentage by which UT4 differs compared to the UT99 value scaled up by that amount.
Even if that scale factor isn't exact between games, it will at least show the relative differences between the categories more easily. If two things are both 95% you'll know they are proportionally the same.
You could even show two columns, one that goes by speed and one that goes by character height for example.

Dementiurge repliedOriginally posted by Wail View PostI would suggest using raw UU values and ignore arbitrary real units.
However, there is a positive to keeping the real units: No one has played UT4 and thought "this really feels like everything is twice as big as it used to be", so showing that UT4 chars are say, ~93% as tall as UT chars would be more useful and relatable than saying they're 236% larger. Tough to let it go.

Wail repliedOriginally posted by darkskyaboveI'm not a mathematician, but I could play one on TV.
I would suggest converting into equivalent units before trying to compare...

Dementiurge repliedOriginally posted by blaise_nz View PostThis will be interesting for comparisons thank you.
How do we compare values between ut4 and the other games - is it a 1:1 value conversion? For example, is 616 run speed in ut the same as 616 in ut4?

All data taken from game files where possible. UT3 data would be appreciated.
Should help settle some scores between the UT99 and UT2004 crowds once it's finished, and possibly even put some perspective to comments about how much UT4 resembles either of them.Last edited by Dementiurge; 10-09-2017, 07:30 PM.Tags: None
