[OFFICIAL] Epic Games & Mapcore's Unreal Tournament Level Design Contest

Epic Games is teaming up with Mapcore for their latest level design contest for the gametype Showdown.

There are some great prizes and the Unreal Tournament team will vote for their favorite submissions. The results will be shared during a live stream on the Unreal Tournament Twitch channel. Depending on how close the entries are to release quality, Epic will evaluate the possibility of adding one or more of the winning entries into the Unreal Tournament Marketplace or even the game.

Should this become a reality, Epic will work directly with the level designer(s) just as was done with Captain Migraine for DM-Lea and Jayoplus for CTF-Pistola.

    The prizes are as follows:

    • First Place ($1650) and Epic Swag Bag
    • Second Place ($850) and Epic Swag Bag
    • Third Place ($500) and Epic Swag Bag
    • Fourth Place Honorary Mention and Epic Swag Bag
    • Fifth Place Honorary Mention and Epic Swag Bag

For the official rules and more information, head over to Mapcore! You can read more about Showdown HERE.

It says custom art is allowed. But realistically the deadline will limit how much custom content a single designer can create.

It's best to head over to Mapcore, there is lots of information there, but here is a guide I wrote to help you get what you need. https://www.mapcore.org/topic/19992-...ping-with-ue4/

Are there any stipulations as far as the art style and UT universe is concerned?
In other words, if a level were to deviate from the art style laid out by the official maps, would it be a dealbreaker?

You should make an effort to try to match the art style, that doesn't mean you can't try something new, minor adjustments would be made to bring it in line with other maps before launch anyway. The UT art direction is more varied than most games, but, if for example you wanted to make a cartoon castle, that might be too far away for an official map. Nothing is stopping you from doing that outside of the contest though, What did you have in mind?

A couple of my ideas weren't particularly sci-fi or futuristic but more of a real world environment. Nothing near as deviant as a cartoon style.

Does the map have to use a traditional showdown type map that is essentially a DM map? Or would it be ok to utilize the new team spawning and have teams spawn in the same room at the beginning of each round?
