How do I manage my party, voice chat, and text chat options in Fortnite?

Manage voice chat

  1. Select your profile icon.
  2. Choose how you want to communicate:
    1. Party chat: Talk to players in your party across Fortnite experiences.
    2. Game chat: Talk to players in the same island instance, if supported by the island creator.
  3. Select your voice controls to mute, unmute, or deafen.
  4. Select the three dots icon to report voice chat, open text chat, adjust voice method, or change communication settings.

Manage text chat

  1. Select your profile icon.
  2. Select the message icon to open Chats to chat with a friend or group.
  3. You can report text chat from the three dots menu. Refer to How to report bad player behavior in Fortnite.
Note: DM and group text chats sync across Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store and Epic Games mobile apps on iOS.

Manage party privacy

  1. Select your profile icon and click on your profile tab.
  2. Review your Party Joinability setting:
    1. Joinable: Your friends and connections can join your party.
    2. Invite Only: Players must be invited or have their join request approved.
Note: Party Joinability defaults to Invite Only for players who indicate they are under 18.

Set communication preferences

  1. Select your profile icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select COMMUNICATION.
  4. Choose who you want to chat with for both voice chat and text chat:
    1. Everybody: You can voice and text chat with everyone
    2. Friends, Team Members, and Connections: You can voice and text chat with Epic friends, platform friends, connections in invite-only chats, and everyone on your team. Connections are people who aren’t your direct friends but are linked to you through your friends. Team sizes vary by experience and can range from a few players to everyone in a game.
    3. Friends Only: You can voice and text chat only with players on your Epic and platform friends lists.
    4. Off: You can’t voice or text chat with anyone.

Chat settings default to Off if you have indicated that you are under the age of 18. You can change the chat settings unless otherwise restricted by Parental Controls. For children under the age of 10, the max setting allowed for both Voice chat and Text chat is Friends Only.
